Houston-based organizations join forces for inaugural Houston Energy and Climate Startup Week 2024

On February 14, 2024, Greentown Labs, Halliburton Labs, and the Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship announced they are collaborating for the inaugural Houston Energy and Climate Startup Week 2024. The event will take place from September 9 to 13, and is set to gather top energy, climate venture capital investors, industry leaders, and promising startups from around the world.

These startups will present their innovative technologies and solutions for addressing energy and climate challenges to venture capital, private equity, and corporate strategic investors. Additional organizations such as Activate Digital, Wildcatters Renewable Energy Alliance Houston, and TEXE will also contribute to the week-long event.

Brad Burke, the executive director of the Rice Alliance, spoke about the need for fostering a thriving energy and climate startup ecosystem in Houston. He extended an invitation to other energy and climate-focused organizations to join them, welcoming parallel events to fill the week. Burke expressed his hope that the forthcoming startup week can cast Houston as a suitable hub for future energy solutions.

Timmeko Moore Love, of Greentown Labs, echoed these sentiments. Moore Love highlighted Houston’s unique position in the clean energy transition, emphasizing the city’s unrivaled wealth of engineering talent, world-leading universities, entrepreneurs, corporations, capital, and assets.

Dale Winger, from Halliburton Labs, spoke to the collaborative spirit of the Houston startup community. Winger underscored the importance of initiatives like the Energy and Climate Startup Week as a platform to connect talented founders with significant investors, practitioners, and university resources to expedite energy innovation.

Jane Stricker, from the Houston Energy Transition Initiative, also weighed in. Stricker lauded the city’s pioneering spirit and commitment to balancing energy needs with reduced emissions. Stricker identified Houston as a center point for the solution due to its diversity and wealth of energy knowledge.
