Disney celebrates 10th anniversary for Disney Accelerator with new startup class

The Walt Disney Company is commemorating the 10th anniversary of its business initiative, Disney Accelerator. The program is designed to aid the progress of innovative, global firms.

Coinciding with this landmark, Disney has introduced five firms that are slated to join the 2024 program. All these innovators aim to explore how emerging technologies can contribute to human imagination and creativity, and thereby shape the future of media and technology.

Bonnie Rosen, general manager of Disney Accelerator, shares that the program embodies Disney’s commitment to constant innovation. Disney aims to leverage technology to better their storytelling. The 2024 program will include firms that align with Disney’s vision of utilizing human creativity and imagination.

Here are the five firms that will be a part of the 2024 Disney Accelerator program:

  • AudioShake: An audio tech firm that uses AI to separate layers of recorded sound and make them interactive and customizable.
  • ElevenLabs: A voice AI research and deployment firm aiming to create realistic and contextually aware AI audio.
  • Nuro: An autonomous vehicle firm that designs and makes custom electric vehicles intended for goods delivery.
  • PrometheanAI: A firm that provides tools for creating virtual worlds and managing digital assets using natural language prompts.
  • StatusPro: An immersive entertainment firm that uses VR and AR technology to create first-person sports gaming experiences.

Disney has a rich history of using technology to enhance storytelling and experiences. Disney Accelerator reflects this commitment by exploring AI’s potential to nurture imagination and creativity responsibly.

Starting from 2014, the Disney Accelerator has facilitated connections for over sixty global companies, including big names like Epic Games and Kahoot. Disney provides mentorship from their senior leadership team to every participating firm. The program will conclude with a Demo Day hosted in spring at The Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California, in spring.

Recently, Disney announced their decision to invest $1.5 billion in Epic Games. This investment will aid Epic Games in building a Disney imaginative universe, similar to the metaverse.
